On the importance of education.
The old saying “you cannot teach an old dog new tricks” is just for dogs. Learning is not just for the young – everyone should be learning as much as they can. You learn at such a rapid rate when you are a child so why should that change as you get older? Are you a human being, a citizen, a person, or are you a dog?
We all know that learning helps us in doing something well. Do something once and it will be time consuming and probably so-so. Do it again, and the results are a little better. Do it a third time and the results will be not only better yet again, but you will finished faster.
Learning a new way to do something could help you by making that task a lot quicker or easier. It could mean that you no longer have to do a particular task at all, as you may learn how to automate it.
Learning new things opens up new worlds almost every time. So why do people resist it?
If you are offered to go on a course at work, take it. If you aren’t offered one, then ask for it. (This will have the added benefit of showing you are keen as well.)
And this doesn’t apply just for work. Learning skills in real life will always be a benefit. Whether it’s being taught something by a friend, or getting up from in front of the TV and taking an online course, or even leaving the house and taking a course at a university, TAFE or other institution (be it a short course or a long one) there will always be a net gain. Sure, there may be times when you don’t get immediate benefits, but that knowledge will always be with you.
And please don’t tell me you cannot afford it. You cannot afford not to!
Ignorance is for the poor. Not just the monetarily poor, but the socially poor, the intellectually poor, and the emotionally poor.
Improving your knowledge will improve your life in many more ways than you can realise at this moment.
(No offence to dogs was intended in this post. I love dogs!)
